Light Rail - March Dinner Meeting

Light Rail - from Vision to Reality

After decades of campaigning and planning, on August 19, 2011 Norfolk finally opened its first light rail transit (LRT) starter line, branded as The Tide that runs eastward 7.4 miles (11.9 km)

Philip Shucet, President and CEO of the Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) was hired two years ago to control spiraling costs and finish construction of the LRT. The final bill for installing the LRT starter line now was reduced by nearly $20 million.

At our PMIHR March dinner meeting he will provide insights into project prioritization, risk management, organization structuring, executive leadership, and project execution from his work with the Light Rail project.

The Ranzy Gammal Memorial Scholarship

PMI-HR has provided scholarship opportunities for local students since 2009. Starting in 2012, we are proud to announce that the scholarship will be renamed to the Ranzy Gammal Memorial Scholarship Award in memory of Ranzy Gammal, a past president of the chapter who served two terms as a board member and passed away in November 2011 from cancer. Ranzy touched the lives of those around her in meaningful ways and is greatly missed.  PMIHR Dir of Membership, Hugh Reid presented Ranzy's Husband, Geoff Davis, and son, Gabriel Davis, with a memorial plaque and letter honoring Ranzy's memory at the February 1, 2012 dinner meeting.
